How to Get Affordable Interior Design Services | 3 Simple Ways
How to Get Affordable Interior Design Services
Is interior design a service only for those who can afford luxury?
The short answer is no.
That’s good news, right? I’ve found ways to work with many types of budgets! Check out the long answer to see how it works.
Hi there👋, I’m Jacqueline, founder of The Glade Design! I specialize in residential interior design.
The Long Answer
Interior design is often seen as a luxury service, reserved for high-end homes and expensive projects. While it’s true that some designers work exclusively on multi-million-dollar residences, that doesn’t mean interior design is only for the wealthy. There are many ways to access professional design help, even on a smaller budget. This is where Luxury Interior Design on a Budget comes into play.
As an interior designer, I love taking on unique and exciting projects, but like any profession, I need to charge for my expertise. That said, Affordable Interior Design is achievable through flexible services that cater to different price points. Here’s how you can work with a designer without spending a fortune.
Affordable Interior Design Services
1. Consultation-Only Services

A design consultation is a cost-effective way to get expert guidance without committing to a full-service package. You’d be surprised how much you can get from a single consultation! You’ll gain new ideas you might not have considered, learn how to avoid common mistakes, and get clear guidance on how to move forward on your own.
Affordable Interior Design starts with making informed decisions through expert advice.
Since consultation-based services don’t usually include site visits, measurements, 3D renders, or working drawings, they are significantly more affordable than full-service design.
Who is a Consultation Suitable For?
- Homeowners
- Builders & Contractors
- Property Investors
- Renovators
What Can Be Covered in a Consultation?
- Colour Schemes
- Materials & Finishes
- Furniture Selection
- Space Planning
- Joinery Advice
- New Builds & Renovations
- Pre-Purchase Property Advice
- Any Residential Design Concerns
How Does My Online Interior Design Consultation Work?
I offer structured online consultations to ensure we make the most of our time together:
- Pre-Consultation Survey – Before the consultation, you fill out a quick survey with key details about your project. This helps me understand your needs and prepare accordingly.
- 90-Minute Consultation – We discuss as much as possible within the session, focusing on actionable advice tailored to your project.
- Follow-Up Report – Within 2–5 days, I provide a summary of our discussion along with extra tips and suggestions that may not have been covered during the session.
Many clients find that a single consultation gives them all the clarity they need! And if you decide to proceed with a full-service design later, the consultation fee is credited toward your total design package.

2. Floor Plan Reviews

Many designers now offer floor plan reviews, but it’s not just about checking the layout. It can include joinery design reviews, layout improvements, or even furniture placement adjustments—basically, anything that needs a quick sketch fix!
This is a great option if you already have a floor plan from a building designer or a joinery plan from a cabinet maker but aren’t sure if everything is on the right track. If you need a fresh set of eyes to refine the details, this service is perfect for you!
Getting this Affordable interior design service means making small but impactful adjustments to maximize your space.
What Can a Floor Plan Review Cover?
- Space Layout & Flow
- Joinery Design Improvements
- Furniture Placement
- Small Adjustments for Maximum Impact
How Does My Floor Plan Review Work?
I usually combine floor plan reviews with consultations. Here’s why:
- Some plans may only need minor tweaks, making a consultation sufficient.
- If significant changes are needed, I provide a separate quote for additional design work.
I think this approach is fairer, rather than jumping straight into a floor plan review. It gives us the chance for a bit of discussion—an opportunity to dive deeper into the brief and budget, rather than just tweaking the plan to fit my preferences.

3. Combining Consultation & Full-Service Design

If you love the idea of working with a designer but are on a budget, you can strategically combine consultation-based advice with full-service design.
It might seem a bit tricky to approach it this way, but I understand everyone has different budgets to work with. I can’t speak for all designers offering this service, but for me, I genuinely enjoy helping out as much as I can.
The key is to narrow down your scope of work—keep it small and focused to make it more manageable.
This is the best way to achieve affordable interior design service without compromising on style.
How Does This Work?
Instead of engaging a designer for your entire home, you can focus full-service design on key areas while using consultations for the rest.
Example 1: Bathroom Renovations
If you’re renovating two bathrooms, you could get full-service design for one and consultation-based guidance for the second—especially if they follow the same theme and materials.
Example 2: New Builds
For a new home, one option is to get a full design package for just the kitchen and bathrooms if you want to keep the rest of the house within a similar theme. This approach works particularly well for new builds, where the layout is usually simpler and more flexible. The rest of the house will likely feature repeating materials and finishes.
You can also schedule consultations as needed to help you move forward. Keep in mind, though, this will require more time on your part to organize documentation like finishes and materials schedules, which would be outside the scope. You’ll also need to communicate more clearly with the builder. If you’re comfortable handling this, it could be a great option for you!
Example 3: Older Homes
For older homes with lots of awkward corners and rooms in unusual shapes and sizes, this approach might not be the best fit. In these cases, a more tailored design process is often needed.
Again, start with a consultation first! This will give you a clearer idea of what’s possible before moving forward.
Affordable Interior Design
Interior design services aren’t just for the wealthy. Whether it’s a one-off consultation, a floor plan review, or a mix of consultation and full-service design, there are ways to work within your budget.
Affordable interior design service not just a dream—it’s entirely possible with the right strategy.
